The Organizing Authority (OA) is Fishers Island Yacht Club (FIYC).[1]  The host club is FIYC.

1    RULES

1.1    The Summer Series will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing(RRS):

1.2    All competing boats are strongly encouraged to carry a handheld VHF radio for safety purposes and race committee communications.

1.3    If there is a conflict between rules or regulations, other than RRS, the sailing instructions will prevail.  This changes RRS 63.7.

1.4    The sailing instructions will consist of the instructions in RRS Appendix S, Standard Sailing instructions, and supplementary sailing instructions that will be on the official notice board located at Fishers Island Yacht Club and on the event website (


2.1    Competitor advertising will not be restricted.


3.1    The Summer Series is open to all boats of thefollowing class(es): International One Design (IOD), J/70 and Bullseye.

3.2    Eligible boats shall enter by completing and submitting the online entry form through the event website located at


4.1    There are no entry fees to register and compete in the Summer Series, except for those fees required by the organizers of the Mystic River Mudhead Benefit Cup, Mason Island Regatta and Fishers Island Round the Island Race.


6.1    Monthly Series shall be conducted in each of June, July, and August, according to the schedule of races in Section 12.5.

6.2     The Summer Series will consist of the June Series, July Series and August Series.

6.3    For the IODs, the Qualifying Series are outlined in the Fishers Island IOD Fleet Rules, available at (click on BY LAWS).  [As of June 22, 2019, the June Qualifying Series will qualify competitors for the following year’s Nantucket IOD Invitational, the July Qualifying Series will qualify competitors for the following year’s IOD World Championships and the IOD North American Championships, and the August Qualifying Series will qualify competitors for the Bermuda IOD Invitational Race Week.]

7.3    The number of races to be sailed each day will be at the discretion of the Race Committee.

7.4    The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race is 1pm for the IODs and 1:30pm for the Bullseyes and J/70s, unless otherwise noted.

7.5    No warning signal will be made after 4:00pm.

9    VENUE

Racing will be held in the waters of Fishers Island Sound.


The courses to be sailed will generally be windward-leeward courses, with the exception of the E.

Burr ‘Round Sound Race and the Trophy Races, which will be “navigator’s races.”


11.1  RRS 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty for infractions both in connection with RRS Part 2 and RRS 31.

11.2  Decisions of the protest committee will be final as provided in RRS 70.5.


12.1  Two (2) races are required to be completed to constitute a series.

12.2  (a) When fewer than four (4) races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. (b) When from four (4) to seven (7) races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.  (c) When eight (8) or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her two worst scores.

12.3  OCS, DSQ and DNF will be scored as last place plus one based on the number of competitors starting the race.  DNC and DNS will be scored based on the number of competitors in the relevant monthly series plus one.

12.4  A boat’s score in the Summer Series will consist of the sum of her scores in each of the June, July and August Series.  A boat that does not participate in any one of the June, July and/or August series will be scored DNC for purposes of calculating their score for the Summer Series.

12.5  A boat’s score in a Qualifying Series will exclude any races sailed on days marked with an asterisk, below.

13.1   Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats.

13.2  The race committee intends to use VHF marine radio frequencies to broadcast courtesy information to competitors.  The race committee’s VHF channel will be posted on the Official Notice Board.


Awards will be given to the top three boats in each class for each of the June Series, July Series, August Series and Summer Series.  Additional trophies may be awarded at the discretion of the OA.


Competitors participate in the Summer Series entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the Summer Series.


Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance.  Each skipper is liable for any and all damages and personal liability.  Proof of insurance shall be provided upon request.
