FIYC Quartermaster

Job Terms: Seasonal, in-person
Hours: 8 hrs per day / 4 days per week from June – September
2 hrs per day / 4 days per week for the last 2 weeks in May and the first 2 weeks in September

Overview

As Quartermaster at FIYC, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our club’s administrative tasks. You will be responsible for the daily management of the office, coordinating member and marina services, and supporting various club initiatives. You will also oversee the annex and clubhouse facilities. You will report to the General Manager and work closely with the Office Manager.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Administrative management: Handling incoming and outgoing correspondence including emails and phone calls during business hours. Coordinating the Dockwa reservation system and liaising with transient boaters arriving and departing. Managing the club’s calendar, including reservations event attendance confirmations and meetings.
  • Membership and facility support: Acting as an informed point of contact for club members and transient guests.
  • Event coordination: Assisting in the planning and set-up of club events and meetings, including the coordination of catering and equipment set-up.
  • Financial management: Assisting the Office Manager with financial record keeping and vendor relations. Liaising with vendors and service providers to ensure timely deliveries and services.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Proven experience in a similar administrative role is a plus.
  • Familiarity with yacht club operations or the marina industry is also a plus.
  • Applicants must be US citizens or be eligible to work in the United States.

Note

Housing is not provided. Must have reliable means to commute. No boating experience is required but it is a plus.

HHC/FIYC Jr. Sailing Instructor Position

Fishers Island Yacht Club /Hay Harbor Club – Sailing Instructor

FIYC and HHC are located on Fishers Island, a 4.1 sq. mi. island located off of the coast of Connecticut, accessible by ferry from New London. 

The yacht club has a rich yachting history and is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the United States, having been founded in 1886. The club continues to field robust junior and senior sailing programs. Active senior classes are the International One Design Class, and Bullseye.  

The junior sailing program is a joint venture between Hay Harbor Club and FIYC with younger children sailing out of Hay Harbor and older children sailing out of West Harbor. Active junior classes include Optimists, Bics, and 420s. Over the years, the program has taught numerous college All-Americans, Olympians, and Olympic hopefuls.

The FIYC/HHC junior sailing program is seeking Sailing Instructors for the 2023 summer season. Instructors will report to Jonathan Farrar, who coaches the Northeastern University sailing team during the academic year and races his International One Design extensively on summer weekends.

Key Stats:

  • Dates: June 17-August 23
  • Salary: min.$20/hr times (opportunities for overtime and part-time work)
  • Housing: Included (usually an apartment over the island’s ice cream parlor)
  • Meals: All meals included (served by the Hay Harbor Club)
  • Requirements: Level 1 US Sailing certification
  • Other: An International One Design is available for racing by instructors (the past several world champions have all come from Fishers, so it is a very competitive fleet)
